Jessy

Philippines

Mabuhay! I am Miss Jessy Silva from the Pearl of the Orient Seas, the Philippines. As a proud female transgender, I am grateful to be a part of the growing, diverse and inclusive community in Yang Mei Senior High!

Before arriving in the Heart of Asia, I have been equipped with noteworthy experiences from being an IELTS trainer to adult professionals and skilled workers to being an English teacher in private and public high schools for almost three years in the Philippines. I also stayed in the heart of the vibrant Hakka community in Kaohsiung City where I taught elementary pupils for a year and a half as a Filipino Foreign English Teacher (FET).

As an English teacher, my personal mission is to create a child-friendly, gender-sensitive, inclusive, safe and motivating space for diverse learners towards English. Beyond the four corners of the classroom, I am passionate in strengthening linkages among the school community by initiating virtual exchange programs to other countries such as the Philippines and Indonesia and hopefully expanding it more with the help of the supportive faculty and enthusiastic students in Yang Mei. Hence, I envision my students to be critical thinkers, competent professionals, creative visionaries, compassionate leaders, committed lifelong learners, and catalysts for change.

Apart from teaching, I am also a lifelong learner by joining clubs such as Asia World Model United Nations, Toastmasters International Club, and League of Filipino Teachers in Taiwan as well as learning other foreign languages such as Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. Moreover, I am an avid fan of fashion modeling and beauty pageants that’s why I love dressing up at school. Just like the youngsters, I love being exposed to the digital social media world such as TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. and share my talent of dancing, singing, acting, and modeling through it.

There is so much that I love to share and learn and what brings me joy is not only to educate minds but also to touch the hearts of my students and to fully connect to them.

Indeed, even though Philippines and Taiwan are divided by seas, but we shall be connected by heart. Through English, we break the barriers and we build bridges.
