YMHS hosts its groundbreaking eco-fashion show

June 14, 2023 (YMHS) - In a celebration of fashion and sustainability, the renowned YMHS (Yang Mei Senior High School) recently hosted its inaugural eco-fashion show at the school's auditorium. The event, held on June 14, witnessed the participation of 16 candidates from Class 102, each representing selected countries from America, Europe, Africa, and the Asia Pacific region.

The afternoon commenced with an enchanting production number featuring the candidates donning their captivating eco-fashion dresses. The show was expertly hosted by Miss Jessy, a foreign English teacher from the Philippines who has been an invaluable member of the YMHS faculty.

Leading the panel of esteemed judges were Huii Sung, the bilingual program head, Brian Yeh, a bilingual program assistant and teacher, and Yueh Ting Tsou, the principal of YMHS. Their vast expertise in fashion and education ensured that the event would be a resounding success.

The candidates showcased their talent and commitment to sustainability through two captivating segments: the runway show and the speech segment. Each participant exuded confidence and charisma, leaving the audience in awe.

Several minor awards were bestowed upon outstanding candidates. The award for Best Photo was granted to Candidate 16, Alice Li, representing Venezuela. Additionally, the audience had the opportunity to cast their votes and choose the People's Choice Awardees. The recipients of this prestigious accolade were Candidate 9, Wendy Yong, representing Korea; Candidate 2, Gary Liao, representing Brazil; Candidate 1, Dora Yu, representing Australia; Candidate 15, Boyd Yang, representing the USA; and Candidate 6, Gigi Chen, representing Germany.

As the night progressed, anticipation built for the major awards, recognizing excellence in eco-conscious fashion and public speaking. The Best Eco-Dress awards were presented to Candidate 11, Justin Chang, representing Nigeria; Candidate 12, Tracy Gu, representing the Philippines; Candidate 5, Tina Chan, representing France; Candidate 8, Peggy Hsiao, representing Japan; and Candidate 6, Gigi Chen, representing Germany.

The Top Model awards highlighted those candidates who effortlessly combined style and poise on the runway. Honored with this distinction were Candidate 11, Justin Chang, representing Nigeria; Candidate 3, Edward Lai, representing Canada; Candidate 14, Annie Chien, representing Taiwan; Candidate 15, Boyd Yang, representing the USA; and Candidate 8, Peggy Hsiao, representing Japan.

The Best Speaker awards recognized candidates who delivered impactful speeches on the importance of sustainable fashion. The winners in this category were Candidate 11, Justin Chang, representing Nigeria; Candidate 12, Tracy Gu, representing the Philippines; Candidate 14, Annie Chien, representing Taiwan; Candidate 3, Edward Lai, representing Canada; and Candidate 7, Diego Chen, representing Italy.

The event concluded with the announcement of the YMHS Earth, Air, Water, and Fire titles. Candidate 12, Tracy Gu, representing the Philippines, earned the YMHS Fire title as the 3rd runner up, while Candidate 15, Boyd Yang, representing the USA, secured the YMHS Water title as the 2nd runner-up. The YMHS Air title went to Candidate 11, Justin Chang, representing Nigeria, and finally, the YMHS Earth title was bestowed upon Candidate 3, Edward Lai, representing Canada.

The YMHS eco-fashion show not only showcased the creativity and talent of the students but also served as a platform to raise awareness about sustainable fashion practices. It exemplified YMHS's commitment to fostering environmentally conscious citizens who recognize the significance of preserving our planet for future generations.

With its resounding success, the YMHS eco-fashion show is expected to become an annual event, inspiring and encouraging young individuals to embrace sustainable fashion and contribute to a greener, more sustainable world.
